PRP for Anti-Aging

As we age, the body naturally begins to change. The change and steady decline of hormone levels lead to the skin producing less collagen. This decline in collagen causes the skin to start showing signs of aging, which is why patients may consider PRP for anti-aging.

In the skin, aging can manifest itself as visible fine lines and wrinkles, a significant loss in volume, and a change in overall skin condition, including thinner, drier skin. Extrinsic aging, such as environment and lifestyle can also impact the aging process.

Whilst aging is natural, many people strive to look younger, and more youthful than their chronological age. For this reason, non-surgical treatments, including PRP for anti-aging have become increasingly popular.

What is PRP?

Put simply, Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) Therapy is an injectable, anti-aging treatment that harnesses the body’s blood to stimulate collagen production and tissue growth.

Naturally, human blood contains key nutrients including plasma, growth factors, and platelets that support overall body and skin function. It is these nutrients that are separated from the blood and injected into the face to encourage the body to begin its natural healing process.

When used to reverse the signs of aging, PRP injections can improve the appearance of wrinkles, restore volume in the skin, and address nasolabial folds and hollowed cheeks. It can also be used to improve the appearance of acne scars, and pigmentation on the surface of the skin.

Suitable for all skin types, ages, and ethnicities, PRP works by extracting blood and placing it in a special centrifuge to separate platelet-rich plasma and natural nutrients. This rich plasma is then injected beneath the surface of the skin to encourage regeneration and new collagen.

For several days following the injections, growth factors and other natural nutrients are gradually released into the skin to further stimulate collagen production. This is all part of the body’s healing ability, which plays boosts the repair of damaged tissue for skin rejuvenation.

For most patients, the results of PRP for anti-aging are visible immediately and will continue to improve over a few weeks. Full results may not be visible until three weeks after treatment as volume builds gradually.

Is PRP Safe?

As PRP uses nothing more than the patient’s blood, it is considered one of the safest aesthetic procedures, with very little risk of infection or complication. However, it is not recommended for anybody who has one of the following medical conditions:

• Hepatitis C

• HIV or AIDS

• Blood cancer/ skin cancer

• Cardiovascular disease, which requires blood thinning medication

Pregnant women are also advised to avoid PRP treatment until after they have given birth.
